UNESCO World Heritage status granted to 12 forts

The 12 forts built by Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj are recognised internationally, marking a proud moment for Maharashtra, State government informed.

The 11 forts in Maharashtra and 1 in Tamil Nadu, have been granted UNESCO World Heritage Site status after proposal for this recognition was prepared by the Directorate of Archaeology and Museums under the Department of Cultural Affairs.

The list of forts includes, Raigad, Pratapgad, Panhala, Shivneri, Lohgad, Salher, Sindhudurg, Suvarnadurg, Vijaydurg, and Khanderi in Maharashtra, and Gingee in Tamil Nadu.
